HIKIND ISSUES STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO
WEBERMAN GUILTY VERDICT

A guilty verdict came in today following the two-week sex abuse trial of Nechemya Weberman, 54, who was accused of sexually abusing a teenager sent to him for psychological treatment over a three-year period beginning when she was 12.

“As someone who has been involved in this issue from the beginning, I am encouraged by this young lady’s courage in standing up for herself,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn). “I am hopeful that if other young people believe themselves to be victims of abuse that they too will come forward. Silence only protects the guilty.

“Today, we have more education and attention on abuse than we’ve had the past. We’ve made progress. But there’s still a long way to go.”
